2. We enjoy teaching a mix of ages, and sometimes we are able to watch people grow from their first lesson aged around 6 until they leave school at 18, or maybe even for longer. In addition to children, you can teach adults as well.
3. It's lovely to watch people's confidence grow, for instance as a result of passing an exam or performing well in a recital.
4. We love the idea that people will look back on their piano lessons and musical experiences in years to come, and have nice memories of a positive time in their life.
5. Teaching the piano allows us to create one-to-one educational opportunities for people who may not necessarily flourish in a classroom setting. We hope that we show our students that learning can be fun.
6. We like providing our students with a skill that is personal to them; not everybody is able to play the piano.
7. We enjoy sharing our knowledge and passion for music with other people.
8. The satisfaction that comes from the smallest breakthroughs can create a warm fuzzy feeling; sometimes the smallest things, such as a student mastering a piece they've been working on for a while, can mean the most.
9. It gives us a chance to learn new things; teaching can be educational for the teacher as well as the student. We are continually motivated to maintain and update our musical knowledge and ideas in order to teach to the best of our abilities.
10. One of the biggest rewards for us is being able to play alongside some of our students and seeing them grow into capable musicians. It is always a pleasure to see them utilize skills we have passed on, and we hope that they will pass our passion for music onto future generations.
For example, this week we recorded our first video with our new group Greenside Consort. This group was formed earlier in the year, and meets for half an hour every Friday during term time. Greenside Consort provides a few of our younger students with an opportunity to perform alongside older and more experienced musicians.
